Kodomo no Omocha

Welcome to the Kodomo no Omocha section of thedbarchives.com! For now on I'll refer to it as Kodocha, it's shortened name. Kodocha's english translated title is Child's Toy and is by Miho Obana. This has to be one of my most favorite series, although at first I wasn't sure about it. I had flipped through the first book at a bookstore and was kinda turned off by the style. It looked like a lot of those shoujo manga that, in my opinion, have plain artwork. So, a month or so later I finally got around to buying the first volume and it caught my interest.

The artwork does get better in the later volumes, as does the story. In the beginning it's pretty much all comedy, but then later on it becomes more drama. I'd say this is a shoujo manga that has shounen elements. For those of you that aren't familiar with manga, shoujo means that it's a girls comic and shounen means boys. I mainly read shounen, but ocassionaly I delve into shoujo (although I am a girl...).

The manga is currently available from Tokyopop and the anime has been licensed by Funimation. The anime has yet to be released in english yet, so I haven't seen any of it yet. I do know that it started in the middle of the manga's run and ended before the manga was over, so I'm guessing it probably differs on a lot of points. Seeing as the manga becomes more serious past volume 7, I doubt the anime touched on a lot of it. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I highly suggest it. Enjoy the section! ^_^
